平安時代前期に成立し、千年近く描かれ続けてきたやまと絵。四季折々の風景や行事、物語などを題材に、宮廷社会と結びつきながら発展を遂げ、江戸時代には多くの流派の絵師たちがその担い手となった。著名な絵師の代表作を含め、東京国立博物館が所蔵する近世やまと絵の中から50点を精選。近世の洗練された美意識を楽しむことができる公式図録。
